Country & territory guide
Compare schools across Bulgaria.
Compare the selected Sofia and Varna schools by teaching language, middle-school organisation and the complete senior award. Anglo-American Sofia combines named international standards with a school diploma and IB option. Charles-Perrault Varna follows approved French grades, but its senior subject page requires a closer look at how optional courses are delivered.

Planning a school search in Bulgaria
Varna's undated secondary page mixes older curriculum text with later reforms and calls seven options direct while identifying two as autonomous CNED-supported. Confirm current subject delivery and combinations.
Choose the actual city, teaching language and receiving phase
Anglo-American School of Sofia (AAS) gives its campus as 1 Siyanie Street in Pancharevo. It maps Elementary from Pre-K through Grade 5, Middle School in Grades 6–8 and High School in Grades 9–12. Its curriculum guide names Common Core, NGSS and other subject standards, with English instruction and possible language support. These phase descriptions are not evidence of earlier PYP or MYP provision merely because senior IB is available.
Lycée français international de Varna – Charles-Perrault has a different phase map: its individual AEFE table approves Petite section through Terminale and marks CNED Non for those grades. Its contact is in St Constantine and Helena, Varna. Compare the intended French class and previous coursework with AAS's receiving division, including the language used for academic subjects. For siblings, make a separate younger- and senior-school plan rather than base the choice only on the final examination.

Compare senior awards and actual subject delivery
AAS identifies a US High School Diploma and Diploma study in the final two secondary years. Ask which school graduation requirements and additional IB requirements the proposed plan meets. Its IB page warns that the master timetable cannot accommodate every combination and that some courses require minimum pupil numbers. It also states an English requirement and a Bulgarian Literature option for pupils whose first language is Bulgarian. Discuss the child's actual language and subject levels with the coordinator.
Varna's secondary page describes three Première specialties followed by two retained in Terminale. It specifically marks humanities, literature and philosophy, and ancient languages, literature and cultures, as autonomous options with CNED support. Yet its introduction refers to seven direct options. Do not treat that mixed wording or the AEFE grade-table CNED Non flag as proof that every optional specialty is classroom-taught. Request the intended year's subject menu, provider and timetable, especially where independent study is involved.

Prepare the school-specific transfer and joining-year plan
AAS's curriculum guide says an English-language transition may require support. Send reports, language-study history and assessed work so the receiving team can review the actual division and the planned senior subjects. For a French-route move to Varna, identify the completed class, next orientation and examined work separately. A transfer between these two sequences needs course comparison, not just a translated age or grade label.
Varna's new-enrolment page is explicitly labelled 2026–2027 and directs families to pre-enrol through EDUKA. That step does not itself establish an accepted place or completed admission. Confirm the offered class, current documents and subject availability directly. Ask both schools for financial terms that separate tuition, support, examinations, transport and any externally delivered specialty. Have the intended next institution assess the precise school diploma, IB subjects or French examination route required, rather than rely on a broad accreditation statement.

Curriculum pathways recorded across the collection
Each row combines evidence from several profiles. Its phases may be offered at different schools; it does not mean every school provides every phase. Online delivery is listed separately. Open the school profile for its exact route and eligibility.

Parent questions about Bulgaria schools
Does Varna's approved French grade span mean every specialty is onsite?
Its AEFE table marks CNED Non for the listed grades, but the school's secondary page identifies two autonomous CNED-supported specialty options and uses broader direct-teaching wording elsewhere. Confirm the current subject's teacher, provider and timetable. A grade's approval flag does not settle every optional course's delivery.

Can an AAS pupil assume every published IB combination will run?
The school says its timetable may not permit every combination and some courses depend on minimum numbers. Discuss the actual subject levels and language choices with its coordinator before committing to a senior transfer. An IB option and the AAS school diploma also have distinct requirements.
