Country & territory guide

Compare schools across the Bahamas.

Compare the selected Freeport and Nassau schools by the programme between primary and senior study, the final award and the actual campus. An IB primary label does not mean every school uses MYP: Lucaya and St Andrew's describe IGCSE sequences, while Lyford Cay lists a different middle and senior combination.

Planning a school search in the Bahamas

LCIS's exact grade map was read from its official index after direct academic-page access failed. Lucaya's undated Diploma page retains older course labels; confirm the intended year's subjects and delivery.

Match the middle programme to the receiving year

Lucaya International School (LIS) in Freeport describes PYP through Year 6, followed later by Edexcel IGCSE study across Years 9–11. St Andrew's International School in Nassau uses Reggio Emilia in PreSchool, PYP from PreKindergarten through Grade 5 and its own Middle Years Diploma in Grades 6–10 leading to IGCSE examinations. Its MYD name should not be expanded into the IB Middle Years Programme.

Lyford Cay International School (LCIS) instead maps MYP in Grades 6–10 before its Grades 11–12 senior programmes. That exact phase map was available in the school-owned index when the academic page could not be opened directly. For a move between these schools, send completed reports, coursework and examination records; compare the actual receiving year and subject sequence rather than translate Lucaya's Year 11 into another school's Grade 11 automatically.

Compare the award and the delivery of each subject

LIS describes three senior outcomes in Years 12–13: the full IB Diploma, individual IB certificates or its high-school diploma. St Andrew's identifies Diploma in Grades 11–12, while LCIS lists both Diploma and Career-related programmes in those grades. Ask which graduation document the proposed plan earns and, for CP, which career-related study and provider are involved. Shared IB branding does not make these senior plans interchangeable.

Lucaya's IGCSE page explicitly separates Visual Arts and Design Technology electives from examined IGCSE courses. Its senior language page also distinguishes onsite Spanish B from selected ab-initio languages taught online through Pamoja, paid separately by the family. Ask about teaching location, supervision and examination registration for each proposed subject. A timetable option can prepare for later study without being an externally examined qualification at that earlier phase.

Plan the island, division and transfer evidence together

Lucaya's contact is Chesapeake Drive in Freeport on Grand Bahama. LCIS describes two campuses in Lyford Cay, Nassau, with separate lower- and upper-school contacts; St Andrew's describes its day campus on eastern New Providence. Start with the actual island and offered division when arranging visits and attendance. Confirm the LCIS building serving each child directly, especially for siblings, rather than assign every phase from one institutional contact.

LIS requests official transcripts where available and results of external examinations. Use those records to discuss unfinished IGCSE or Diploma work before accepting a senior place. Its published Diploma page retains older course terminology, so obtain the intended year's current subjects and levels. Request a quotation that separates tuition, examinations, transport, learning support and any online language course. Have the next institution assess the exact award and subject requirements; school recognition language does not decide an individual credit or admission outcome.

Parent questions about Bahamas schools

Is St Andrew's Middle Years Diploma the IB MYP?

Its own description calls it MYD in Grades 6–10 and says it leads to IGCSE examinations. LCIS separately identifies MYP in Grades 6–10. Compare coursework and the receiving class rather than treat these similarly named middle programmes as the same qualification sequence.

Are all Lucaya arts electives and language courses examined onsite?

The IGCSE page says Visual Arts and Design Technology electives are not IGCSE courses. Its senior language page identifies selected online Pamoja options separately from onsite Spanish B. Confirm the current subject, provider and examination plan, including any additional online-course charge.
