Country & territory guide

Compare schools across Denmark.

Compare the selected Denmark school destinations by the phase they cover and the next qualification. Aarhus and Billund provide different starting points from Copenhagen's senior IB, Hellerup's IGCSE route and Frederiksberg's French programme. A common international label does not identify how long a child can remain at one school or which provider delivers the final award.

Planning a school search in Denmark

Plan the transition after the younger and middle phases

Aarhus International School describes PYP followed by MYP1–5, corresponding to international Grades 6–10. Its own overview explains that graduates then move to upper-secondary options, including IB Diploma or Danish routes elsewhere. Plan that next institution as a separate enquiry, with its own entry decision and subject requirements. The presence of PYP and MYP should not be converted into a Diploma programme at the same school.

International School of Billund's current overview describes kindergarten, primary and middle school, and gives its Skolesvinget address. Use those published divisions when asking about the child's present placement and later progression. A family comparing Billund with Aarhus should request a current leaving-year plan and identify the next school. Shared IB terminology or playful learning language does not guarantee automatic admission to a senior provider.

Compare Nordhavn IB with Hellerup IGCSE

Copenhagen International School explicitly identifies its own PYP, MYP and Diploma programmes, and publishes a Nordhavn address. That provides a different senior-continuity comparison from Aarhus's stated transition after MYP. Its explanatory article also discusses IB programmes generally; use the school's explicit three-programme statement rather than reading every generic IB description as provision at CIS. Ask how a transfer fits the intended phase and available subjects.

Rygaards' international section in Hellerup describes English-curriculum education for ages four to sixteen and Cambridge/Edexcel IGCSE examinations. That is a different intermediate award from MYP and a different phase endpoint from CIS's Diploma provision. Confirm the actual examination board and syllabus for the proposed subjects. For a child nearing IGCSE, plan the receiving post-16 institution early rather than assuming the next course continues under the same school name.

Keep the French grade map and locality distinct

AEFE's Prins-Henrik record locates the school in Frederiksberg and lists approved French grades from Petite section through Terminale. Toute petite section is separately marked non-homologated. The French route therefore deserves a grade-specific comparison with the named IB or IGCSE schools, including teaching-language preparation and completed national coursework. The approval table does not establish every additional option or an individual applicant's acceptance.

Treat Aarhus, Billund, Copenhagen, Hellerup and Frederiksberg as actual collection choices, then check the campus address and division in the offer. For siblings, compare both the first joining year and the later examination transition; one child's suitable route may require another school enquiry for the other. Request school-specific language assessment, support, current subjects and dated financial terms. Separate tuition, examinations and any transport or additional care, and have the next institution check the exact qualification and subject combination.

Parent questions about Denmark schools

Does Aarhus's PYP and MYP provision establish an on-site IB Diploma?

Its own overview describes graduates moving to upper-secondary options elsewhere after MYP. CIS separately states that it offers PYP, MYP and Diploma. Ask about the named receiving institution and its current offer rather than assuming every IB-branded school has the full senior sequence.

Are Rygaards and Prins-Henrik the same post-16 pathway?

Rygaards' international section describes English-curriculum education through IGCSE for ages four to sixteen. Prins-Henrik's AEFE table approves French grades through Terminale. Compare the actual leaving award, language preparation and next application; their Copenhagen-area association does not make the programmes interchangeable.
