Country & territory guide

Compare schools across the Dominican Republic.

Compare the selected Santo Domingo and Santiago schools through their language setting, middle-to-senior sequence and treatment of earlier coursework. Carol Morgan's new Diploma provision and PYP candidacy differ from Saint George's IGCSE-to-IB route and Santiago Christian's school-credit programme. Each child's placement and final award needs a named-school review.

Planning a school search in the Dominican Republic

SCS's transfer and sample-course evidence is from its January 2026 handbook. CMS's newer Kinder 3 announcement differs from its admissions page's youngest-age starting point; confirm the current joining conditions.

Distinguish authorised IB from candidate and school-credit routes

Carol Morgan School (CMS) explicitly describes an authorised IB Diploma and separately identifies PYP candidacy. Its head's 2026–2027 message calls Diploma newly authorised while the elementary division remains a candidate. For a younger child, ask what the actual classroom programme provides now; senior authorisation should not become primary authorisation or an assumed MYP sequence. For a senior pupil, confirm the current subjects, start point and completion plan.

Saint George School in Santo Domingo describes a British foundation integrated with the Dominican National Plan of Studies, leading through IGCSE to Diploma. Santiago Christian School (SCS) instead describes PK3–Grade 12 English-immersion education, with play-centred bilingual Common Core in early childhood and named US standards in later divisions. Its Christian teaching context is school-specific. Compare these actual sequences and language expectations rather than assume every international or American-style school awards the same diploma.

Review incoming credits and both teaching languages

SCS's handbook revised in January 2026 describes transcript and admission-test review for incoming high-school pupils. Approved transfer credits can meet graduation requirements but are excluded from its cumulative GPA, and outstanding requirements may need additional coursework. Ask for a written credit evaluation and completion timetable. That is a specific school rule, not a general Dominican transcript calculation or automatic transfer entitlement.

The same handbook's sample senior schedule includes AP Calculus and AP English Literature options; it is a dated planning example, not confirmation that each course runs for the intended cohort. Saint George describes English/Spanish second-language support, while CMS describes English immersion. Ask which academic language the child needs for actual subjects and how support fits the timetable. A language-support offer or an AP subject should remain separate from the full IB course structure and school graduation requirements.

Use the actual location and current youngest-entry process

CMS gives its Avenida Sarasota contact in Santo Domingo; Saint George's authoriser record identifies Calle Porfirio Herrera 6 in Piantini. SCS gives Autopista Duarte kilometre 5.5 in Santiago. Start with the offered school and division when arranging visits, attendance and sibling schooling. These are different selected city collections, and neither a metropolitan label nor a curriculum acronym establishes a convenient daily journey.

CMS requests reports, a teacher reference, a family interview and screening; international families can provide an employer, school or organisation reference and may arrange remote screening. Its admissions age section still starts with Pre-Kinder for four-year-olds, while the 2026–2027 head's message announces an inaugural Kinder 3 class. Confirm that new class's current conditions rather than extend the older cutoff. Obtain joining-year terms for assessments, support, transport and examination courses, and have the next provider check the exact final qualification.

Parent questions about Dominican Republic schools

Is Carol Morgan's primary programme already authorised PYP?

The school still distinguishes PYP candidacy from its authorised Diploma, including in the 2026–2027 message. Ask about the child's actual primary curriculum and current status. The senior programme's approval does not authorise every younger division or establish an MYP pathway.

Will approved Santiago Christian transfer credits enter its GPA?

Its January 2026 handbook says approved transfer credits can meet graduation requirements but do not enter the cumulative GPA on the SCS transcript. Ask for the child's credit and placement evaluation, remaining courses and a current policy confirmation; do not apply that school-specific rule to CMS or Saint George.
