Country & territory guide

Compare schools across Ecuador.

Compare the selected Quito, Guayaquil and Samborondón schools by national coursework, school-graduation award and international examinations. Academia Cotopaxi's separate diploma options, British School Quito's IGCSE-to-IB route and Colegio Menor's AP courses give different senior plans. The programme before senior study matters as much as the final label.

Planning a school search in Ecuador

Keep graduation and optional IB awards separate

Academia Cotopaxi's high-school page distinguishes a US school diploma for graduating pupils, an Ecuadorian diploma for those completing the required national coursework, and IB after successful completion of its two-year course and examinations. These conditions deserve separate transcript questions. Ask which awards the proposed plan meets and what coursework remains; joining the school does not establish an automatic triple qualification.

Colegio Americano de Guayaquil's page separately describes PYP and Diploma. A primary framework and a senior award do not explain every intervening school year or local entry cutoff. Compare the actual younger division with Cotopaxi's senior choices, then ask the receiving team to map previous learning and the route between phases. General ages in an IB description should not decide an individual applicant's placement.

Compare British-to-IB study with AP subjects

British School Quito's secondary route uses English-curriculum study in Years 7–9, Cambridge IGCSE in Years 10–11 and Diploma in Years 12–13. Its curriculum page also describes a British/Ecuadorian combination. Confirm how national study, English and Spanish, and examined senior subjects fit the child's plan. A British name here does not imply A levels as the final qualification.

Colegio Menor's Samborondón high-school page describes liberal arts study and AP options from Grade 10, including English and Spanish language study. Compare individual AP courses with specific IB subjects and graduation requirements rather than treating them as a full IB programme or evidence of a US diploma. Ask which classes run for the intended year and how each examination fits the offered timetable.

Use the actual destination and completion plan

The selected collections distinguish Guayaquil from Samborondón, even when wider marketing uses the Guayaquil area name. Quito also contains distinct institutions: British School Quito gives its Tumbaco address, while Cotopaxi publishes a different campus contact. Use the offered division and teaching site when arranging visits, then compare daily attendance and sibling transitions alongside the academic route.

For a senior transfer, send reports, language history and completed assessed work to the receiving school. Have it identify the national coursework, graduation credits and examination sequence that remain. Obtain a current joining-year quotation with transport, examinations and support separated. Have the next institution assess the actual award, subject levels and completion date before relying on broad recognition language; a school's credit claim is not an individual university decision.

Each row combines evidence from several profiles. Its phases may be offered at different schools; it does not mean every school provides every phase. Online delivery is listed separately. Open the school profile for its exact route and eligibility.

Parent questions about Ecuador schools

Does studying at Cotopaxi automatically give every pupil three diplomas?

Its page describes separate conditions: school graduation, required Ecuadorian coursework, and successful IB study and examinations. Ask which conditions the offered plan satisfies and which awards will be issued. Do not combine those labels into an unconditional outcome for a transferring pupil.

Does Menor's AP offer mean the same route as Quito's IB?

Menor describes AP subject options from Grade 10; British School Quito describes IGCSE followed by Diploma. Compare subjects and the full graduation plan. The AP offer alone does not establish a US diploma or guaranteed university credit.
