Planning a school search in Spain

The Ministry recognition page was reviewed through official indexed text after direct retrieval failed. Pozuelo’s original profile identity is preserved; the current website explicitly reports its former name. Its advertised 2027 IB candidate/planned route is not presented as authorised current provision.

Keep metropolitan brands tied to actual campuses

The selected Madrid-area example is the original British Council School profile in Pozuelo de Alarcón. Its linked curriculum URL now redirects to The British School, whose official homepage explicitly identifies itself as formerly The British Council School and places the campus in Prado de Somosaguas, Pozuelo. The original catalogue identity and review date remain intact; the current school-owned history and curriculum evidence are recorded separately for this guide.

The Barcelona-area example here is specifically the British School of Barcelona’s Castelldefels and Nexus profile. The school’s Diploma page identifies BSB Nexus in Castelldefels and also mentions a separate Barcelona campus; that wider page does not turn the selected profile into one combined address. Caxton’s Puçol collection and Sotogrande’s collection are further distinct choices. Use the actual locality and proposed division when arranging visits, especially when the child’s younger and senior years may involve different buildings.

Compare BiBac, A levels and the IB by award

The redirected Pozuelo curriculum page describes English National Curriculum study through secondary school and the school’s BiBac bilingual Bachillerato. BiBac should not be confused with the International Baccalaureate Diploma. The current homepage also advertises international A levels and a planned/candidate IB route for 2027; its candidacy wording is not evidence of an authorised current Diploma. Obtain the specific cohort offer and current authoriser confirmation before relying on that planned route.

Caxton’s senior page describes British A-level choices alongside preparation in Spanish PCE subjects. BSB’s Nexus Diploma route provides a different senior programme, while Sotogrande describes IB phases and a choice between the full Diploma and individual Diploma courses in its senior years. Compare the actual timetable, required Spanish study and qualification issuer, rather than merging these into one bilingual or international category. A student transferring late needs a plan for existing coursework and the new programme’s assessment requirements.

Check recognition for the intended next step

Spain’s Ministry distinguishes homologación of a foreign non-university qualification from convalidación of foreign study for continuing in a Spanish course. Its guidance also addresses the relevant authorisation of foreign-system centres located in Spain. These are questions about the exact studies and credential, rather than a blanket endorsement of every international-school pathway. The official service text was available through indexed evidence in this review; the complete page could not be retrieved directly.

For a shortlist spanning Madrid, Catalonia, Valencia and Andalusia, ask which authority and recognition process apply to the proposed course. Request a written subject plan and the documents issued on completion. If Spanish university study is the aim, verify the receiving course’s current requirements alongside school counselling. Do not infer automatic equivalence, an entrance score or admission from examination results or marketing descriptions.

Parent questions about Spain schools

Is BiBac the same qualification as the IB Diploma?

The Pozuelo school describes BiBac as its bilingual Bachillerato, while its homepage separately advertises a planned/candidate IB route. Confirm the actual award for the child’s cohort and the current authorisation of any proposed IB programme. Similar abbreviations do not establish the same curriculum or credential.

Can a completed international qualification be assumed equivalent to a Spanish award?

The Ministry publishes distinct recognition procedures for foreign qualifications and study. Check which procedure, if any, applies to the exact award and intended next course. School programme information and national recognition guidance serve different purposes, and neither supplies an individual admission guarantee.
