Country & territory guide

Compare schools across Hungary.

Compare the selected Nagykovácsi and Budapest schools through the offered campus, senior diploma and language-support boundary. AISB's school and Global Impact diplomas sit alongside a separate IB option; Gustave-Eiffel's French sequence has its own specialty choices. A school name containing Budapest should not replace an actual division and teaching-site plan.

Planning a school search in Hungary

AISB's linked 2025–2026 profile and course guide were not read as current subject confirmations. Confirm the intended cohort's diploma combination, courses and support; Gustave-Eiffel's FLSco description has a specific phase boundary.

Use the real campus and division before choosing a route

American International School of Budapest (AISB) describes its campus in Nagykovácsi, with two main buildings connected by a bridge. Its elementary building serves Early Childhood 3 through Grade 5, while the middle/high building serves Grades 6–12. These are linked divisions at the named campus, not interchangeable city branches. Confirm each child's building and attendance timetable when comparing the Nagykovácsi collection with a school inside Budapest.

Lycée français Gustave-Eiffel de Budapest gives Máriaremetei út 193–199 in Budapest. Its individual AEFE table approves Petite section through Terminale, with CNED marked Non. Compare the actual proposed French class with AISB's receiving division and the child's completed coursework. The country collection brings those different locations together, but it should not imply identical travel arrangements, school calendars, teaching languages or age-based placement.

Separate the school diploma, Global Impact and complete IB

AISB's high-school page lists its US High School Diploma, Global Impact Diploma (GID) and IB Diploma. It also explains that GID and IB involve further requirements in addition to the AISB diploma and describes a combined GID/IB route. Ask the school to identify the precise combination and graduation documents the proposed plan earns. These school-specific choices should not become a Hungarian national diploma or automatic equivalent awards.

The dedicated GID page describes leadership, collaboration and student-directed coursework, an Impact Portfolio and a final exhibition. Compare that assessment structure with the full IB subject-and-core plan, not just the shared word diploma. At Gustave-Eiffel, lycée runs through Seconde, Première and Terminale towards the Baccalauréat, with three Première specialties and two retained in Terminale. A senior transfer needs a review of unfinished assessment and the actual available subjects before choosing between those routes.

Check the exact language-support phase and current cohort

Gustave-Eiffel distinguishes immersion in Petite and Moyenne Section from its FLSco support for non-French-speakers, described from Grande Section through Cinquième. Its broader welcome statement does not establish the same provision in later collège or lycée. Ask how academic French will be supported in the actual receiving class and whether the child's earlier language study can continue. AISB's high-school page separately describes English-as-an-additional-language and learning-support specialists; that is a different school-specific discussion.

AISB links a 2025–2026 school profile and course guide alongside its current diploma description. Those older attachments have not been used to guarantee a joining-year subject menu. Request the current timetable, graduation-credit evaluation and exact GID/IB combination requirements. For either school, obtain financial terms that separate tuition, language or learning support, examinations, transport and externally delivered courses. Have the next institution assess the precise award, language and subject levels required, rather than infer admission or credit from an international-school or accreditation label.

Parent questions about Hungary schools

Is AISB's Global Impact Diploma the IB Career-related Programme?

The school describes GID separately, with its own coursework, portfolio and exhibition, and lists IB Diploma as a different option. It also describes combined requirements. Ask which actual awards and subjects the child's plan includes; do not relabel GID as CP or assume national diploma equivalence.

Does Gustave-Eiffel describe FLSco support through every senior year?

Its language page gives FLSco from Grande Section through Cinquième and younger nursery immersion separately. Ask about the actual later collège or lycée language plan before a transfer. A general welcome for non-French-speakers is not confirmation of identical support in every class.
