Planning a school search in Ireland

Villiers' school-owned senior programme page was reviewed through current official indexed text after direct retrieval failed; only its published award choice is used. Rockwell's March 2026 information-event reference is a past date, so current intake arrangements need confirmation.

Compare national and IB pathways at the senior joining point

Bandon Grammar's senior page places its Leaving Certificate cycle in Fifth and Sixth Year. St Columba's uses Forms V–VI for the Leaving Certificate, following Junior Cycle and Form IV. Those labels should be translated through completed learning and examination preparation, not a numerical comparison with another country's Year 12. Ask about the actual subjects, levels and remaining assessed work before proposing a late senior transfer.

Nord Anglia Dublin's admissions page maps its primary PYP, middle MYP and senior Diploma phases, including Grades 11–12 for the Diploma. Villiers in the Limerick collection publishes a choice between the Leaving Certificate and IB Diploma. Its programme description was reviewed through official indexed text after live retrieval failed. Compare each complete award and its taught subjects; an IB option in senior school does not establish primary IB provision at every selected institution.

Check whether Transition Year is part of the offered route

St Columba's explicitly makes Form IV Transition Year compulsory. Rockwell's curriculum page instead describes Transition Year as an option after Junior Cycle, with preparation for Leaving Certificate subject choices. These named-school descriptions should not be turned into one rule for every Irish school. Clarify whether a transferring pupil would enter Transition Year or begin the examined senior course, and which route gives appropriate subject preparation.

Nord Anglia's grade table places Grade 10 MYP beside the Irish Transition Year label. That comparison does not mean an MYP year and another school's Transition Year have identical courses or assessment. Ask the receiving team to review reports, languages and work already completed. Rockwell's current page retains an information-event reference to March 2026; request the intended intake's current subject-selection arrangements rather than relying on that past event.

Make the city, language and residential enquiry specific

Use Bandon and Cashel as distinct collection starting points alongside Dublin and Limerick. Nord Anglia's admissions page identifies its Leopardstown campus, while St Columba's academic page identifies Whitechurch in Dublin 16. A Dublin search label does not settle the teaching address or the daily journey. Confirm the actual site, division and timetable in the proposed offer, particularly when siblings have different programmes or require transport.

Nord Anglia publishes an English-proficiency check for the final MYP years and Diploma entry, with rolling admissions subject to places. Bandon's application page distinguishes day and boarding enquiries. These are separate school procedures: residential admission, academic entry and a suitable senior course all need confirmation. Obtain current boarding or day arrangements and dated financial terms directly, separating tuition, residential care, examinations and support. Check the exact award and subjects against the next institution's requirements.

Parent questions about Ireland schools

Is Transition Year compulsory at every selected Irish school?

St Columba's says its Form IV Transition Year is compulsory; Rockwell describes it as an option after Junior Cycle. Ask the receiving school which year the child would enter. Nord Anglia's MYP grade comparison should not be used to impose another school's Transition Year policy.

Can Ireland's selected senior schools be compared using one final award?

Bandon and St Columba's publish the Leaving Certificate; Nord Anglia publishes IB Diploma study, and Villiers publishes a choice of Leaving Certificate or Diploma. Compare the complete qualification, subjects and entry point. School-year labels and an international name do not establish interchangeable assessment or admission requirements.
