Compare schools across Jersey.

Compare the selected Jersey collections in St Peter and St Saviour by the year your child will enter and the next school transition. Preparatory education here has different endpoints, so a shared British label is only the beginning of the comparison.

Planning a school search in Jersey

Checked 15 October 2026. St George’s admissions policy is reviewed March 2026; its separately linked Teaching for Learning PDF and the older catalogue attachment could not be retrieved. St Michael’s Shell wording describes a preparation route, not a GCSE award or guaranteed Hautlieu entry. Termly 2026/27 billing is not an annual quotation.

Choose an endpoint before comparing the two sites

St George’s Preparatory School teaches at La Hague Manor in St Peter. Its academic sequence moves from Early Years into Lower Prep Forms I–II, Middle Prep III–IV and Upper Prep V–VI. Form VI is the stage where families prepare for secondary school. St Michael’s Preparatory School is at Five Oaks in St Saviour; its academics page separates Pre-Prep Years 1–2, Juniors 3–4 and Seniors 5–8. Those structures create different planning horizons for a child entering the same apparent primary year.

St Michael’s also describes a School Shell programme designed to prepare pupils for Hautlieu Year 10 entry, introducing GCSE foundations. This is a particular transition route to discuss with the school, rather than evidence that every pupil receives a GCSE award or an automatic Hautlieu place. Ask which exit year and receiving-school preparation apply to your child before deciding that either collection covers the whole secondary journey.

Compare classroom progression and entry evidence

St George’s explains Early Years through the EYFS framework and names Birth to 5 Matters and Read Write Inc phonics in its early curriculum. Its later prep phases introduce increasingly specialist teaching. St Michael’s describes alignment with the National Curriculum, Jersey Curriculum and ISEB syllabuses, then Common Entrance or academic-scholarship preparation in Year 8. A useful comparison is how the receiving class develops reading, mathematics and independent work, with examples appropriate to the child’s present stage.

Entry procedures also differ in their published wording. St Michael’s says places are offered without assessment, in registration-date order, with other year groups dependent on vacancies. St George’s March 2026 admissions policy describes a non-selective school while retaining capacity and individual-needs considerations; beyond Early Years, a taster can help staff observe readiness alongside previous reports and parent discussion. Neither description removes the need to agree support and the proposed class. Share recent work and existing learning-support information before a visit.

Use the visit to settle timing and the annual commitment

St George’s tour request asks for the child’s date of birth, proposed year and intended start date. Its policy gives specific Early Years entry points around birthdays and September cohorts, so ask for the actual offered placement rather than translating a current overseas class name. St Michael’s names Nursery at 3+, Reception at 4+, a small number of Year 7 entry places and taster opportunities. Confirm the relevant cohort and vacancy directly.

Read the billing period carefully. St Michael’s published 2026/27 tuition is per term and separates optional lunch, music and private tutorials. Request a quotation for the complete academic year and the sessions or extras your child would use. For St George’s, pair the admissions discussion with the current terms and fee schedule. A visit should also establish the onward-school timetable: Form VI preparation, Year 8 examinations or the particular Shell transition require different arrangements.

Parent questions about Jersey schools

Do both selected Jersey schools continue through GCSE?

Their reviewed pages describe different routes. St George’s ends its prep sequence at Form VI, while St Michael’s describes Years 7–8 and a Shell programme preparing for Hautlieu Year 10 entry. GCSE foundations in Shell are not confirmation of a complete GCSE course or an offered place at Hautlieu. Ask each school to identify the receiving secondary route.

Does non-selective or non-assessed entry guarantee a place?

No. St Michael’s registration order still operates within vacancies. St George’s policy retains capacity and individual-needs considerations, using reports, discussion and a taster where appropriate. Confirm a specific year-group offer, support arrangements and intended start date before treating a tour or registration as enrolment.
