Country & territory guide

Compare schools across Cambodia.

Compare the selected Battambang, Siem Reap and Phnom Penh schools by the exact approved French class, delivery arrangement and planned next qualification. Their grade tables have different endpoints. Broader operator descriptions and language options should be read alongside those records, including the unresolved Seconde wording and any residential arrangements needed for a later move.

Planning a school search in Cambodia

Siem Reap's operator and AEFE descriptions disagree on Seconde approval. Battambang's wider recognition claim lacks a class-by-class explanation in its readable homepage. Descartes' residential notice is dated September 2023; confirm current arrangements.

Check approved grades before planning a change of city

École française de Battambang has AEFE approval rows from Petite section through CE2. CM1 and CM2 are marked non-homologated without CNED, while Sixième through Quatrième are non-homologated with CNED indicated; Troisième is not in that table. Its operator makes a broader claim about Cambodian equivalence and double recognition through Troisième. Request the exact class provider, assessment and supporting recognition instrument; that operator statement does not expand the approved French grade span.

Lycée français international Norodom Monineath Sihanouk in Siem Reap has an AEFE table approving Petite section through Seconde, whereas its admission FAQ still calls Seconde approval in progress. Confirm the offered class and current record directly. Lycée français René-Descartes de Phnom Penh has approval through Terminale, providing a different senior endpoint. A lycée name alone does not establish Première or Terminale provision in every selected town.

Compare language paths, unfinished coursework and support

René-Descartes describes the French collège examination and a lycée sequence through Seconde, Première and Terminale. Its programme overview gives three Première specialties and two retained in Terminale. Ask which subjects and assessed work can continue after a transfer, especially around the move into senior study. Compare that actual examination and subject plan with the provider arrangement proposed for a Battambang class beyond CE2.

The Phnom Penh school's pedagogy page describes a strengthened Khmer pathway and an American international section within French schooling. Those optional language arrangements should not be turned into a separate whole-school US diploma or identical provision for every pupil. Siem Reap's admission page says secondary French may be required and warns that specific learning-disability support is not offered locally. Discuss the child's academic-language preparation and support needs with each receiving team; network membership does not establish the same specialist capacity.

Separate an individual offer from older residential information

Siem Reap describes head-of-school review and testing for relevant applicants, with the offered class depending on space and earlier schooling. Send the actual reports, orientation decision, language history and assessed work rather than rely on its generic age-equivalence table. Ask how any CNED-supported course is supervised, enrolled and examined. Missing approval or a CNED flag should not be interpreted by itself as an available class, a closed class or an automatic transfer right.

René-Descartes' information page contains a residential notice explicitly describing a September 2023 opening for Troisième–Terminale and a Sunday-evening-to-Friday-evening arrangement. Use that older notice to frame a current enquiry if a family must relocate for senior study. Confirm today's residence, eligibility, supervision and weekends or holidays separately; the old notice does not establish a bed or current price. Request joining-year terms for tuition, examinations, support, external courses and any accommodation, and verify the precise graduation route with the school.

Parent questions about Cambodia schools

Does Battambang's broader operator claim approve every French grade?

Its AEFE table approves Petite section–CE2, with different non-homologated rows later. The operator's through-Troisième recognition claim does not itself verify approved French classroom delivery or the Cambodian award. Ask for the exact class, provider, examination issuer and current recognition evidence before relying on it.

Is Siem Reap's Seconde approval described consistently?

No. AEFE's individual table includes Seconde as approved, while the school admission FAQ still describes approval as pending. Confirm the current record and actual offered class. Neither description establishes a Première or Terminale route merely because the institution is called a lycée.
