Country & territory guide

Compare schools across Malta.

Compare the selected Pembroke and Mosta schools through the qualification a child will actually pursue, the middle-to-senior transition and language readiness. Verdala International School and QSI International School of Malta publish different senior routes. Their course lists and general programme descriptions need to be read alongside specific intake notices and school-level placement rules.

Planning a school search in Malta

Checked 15 October 2026. VIS's general CP wording is limited by its September 2026/Class of 2028 notice, and its PYP is described as pursuing candidacy. QSI's diploma labels differ between pages and its subject list is illustrative. VIS's main admissions route timed out; its direct contact body supports enquiries. Linked profile, handbook and fee attachments were not read.

Start with the middle programme and younger-school status

Verdala International School (VIS) describes MYP in Grades 6–8, continuing through Grades 9–10 in High School. Its Learning page names authorised MYP and Diploma but says it is pursuing PYP candidacy. A family considering an elementary place should ask what its present framework and assessment involve; the older child's authorised programme does not establish an authorised primary continuum.

QSI International School of Malta describes an American college-preparatory curriculum and mastery learning in Mosta. Its admissions page groups younger children by age, using 31 October for age-level placement. Qualifying pupils may adjust literacy or mathematics while remaining with age peers for other subjects. Send birthdate, previous reports and subject work so the school can explain placement rather than translate a foreign year label directly into a Maltese class.

Check the senior cohort before choosing an advertised award

VIS's specific CP notice says the Career-related Programme is no longer offered beginning with the Class of 2028, applying to incoming Grade 11 applications for September 2026. Its middle overview still mentions progression to DP or CP. Use the cohort-specific notice when enquiring: it describes full IB Diploma and the VIS Diploma as alternatives, without establishing a place or every proposed subject combination.

VIS describes a two-year Diploma with six subject groups and the TOK, extended essay and CAS core. QSI's secondary page describes General Diploma and Diploma with Honors, while admissions still lists General, Academic and Academic with Honors. Request the intended cohort's exact diploma requirements and transcript plan. QSI also describes AP and AP Capstone possibilities, but explicitly labels its long subject list as an average-school example modified locally; confirm taught, virtual and examined courses individually.

Compare the real site and phase-specific support

VIS gives Fort Pembroke as its campus and asks admission enquiries to include a child's birthdate and current school so grade availability can be checked. QSI identifies Triq Durumblat in Mosta and offers virtual or in-person tours. Arrange the appropriate division's visit and check daily attendance, transport and support arrangements before choosing a home around an assumed journey.

QSI's published English conditions differ by phase: its younger and middle pupils can receive Intensive English, while secondary pupils need sufficient English to access credit-bearing study. Discuss academic reading and writing separately from conversational confidence. A school enquiry or year-round application is not an accepted place. Request a current itemised quotation for the actual class, examinations, transport and any individual support, with the academic year clearly stated.

Parent questions about Malta schools

Can a new Grade 11 pupil choose Verdala's CP for September 2026?

VIS's specific notice closes CP to that incoming cohort, identified as the Class of 2028, and describes full DP and the VIS Diploma instead. The broader middle-school overview still mentions CP. Confirm the intended cohort and alternative award directly; the notice does not say every existing CP pupil's programme ended.

Does QSI's published AP list guarantee every subject in Mosta?

No. Its secondary page calls that list an example for an average QSI school, adjusted for local needs, and mentions possible virtual provision. Ask for the actual year's timetable, delivery method, AP examination arrangements and required school-diploma credits. An AP course or Capstone option is separate from completing the QSI diploma.
