Country & territory guide

Compare schools across Norway.

A Norway school search should separate Bergen, Stavanger, Bekkestua and central Oslo, then check how far the chosen programme runs. The selected collection includes IB primary and middle study, IGCSE-to-Diploma routes, an IPC primary programme and French approved classes. Senior continuity depends on the named school, not an international-school label.

Planning a school search in Norway

Plan Bergen’s Grade 10 transition early

International School of Bergen publishes PYP in Grades 1–5 and MYP in Grades 6–10. Its learning overview explicitly describes graduation at Grade 10 and preparation for transfer to schools offering the final two years. Families considering Bergen for a child approaching the end of MYP should ask about reports, subject preparation and receiving-school applications while the child is still enrolled. The selected school’s IB provision does not mean a Diploma place remains on the same campus.

Stavanger’s high-school page instead describes IGCSE in Grades 9–10 and Diploma study in Grades 11–12. Compare those examination years with the child’s completed subjects before transferring between the two cities. A Grade 10 move can involve a different assessment sequence even when the final aim is IB. Ask the receiving school which examination or project evidence it needs, how it handles incomplete courses and what language and mathematics preparation is expected.

Separate the Oslo region’s IPC, IB and French paths

Oslo International School’s current homepage describes IPC in Years 1–6. Its upper-secondary page describes a three-year Pre-IB-to-IB2 sequence, with the Diploma in Years 12–13. The primary IPC description is distinct from IB PYP, and a senior Diploma does not establish an MYP route for earlier pupils. Ask for the offered class’s curriculum and preparation plan, especially when a former school’s grade number differs from the receiving school’s year labels.

The AEFE record for Lycée français René-Cassin d’Oslo lists approved French classes from Petite section through Terminale at Skovveien 9. Compare that French sequence and the child’s language preparation with OIS’s English-language programmes before shortlisting on city alone. Approved grade listings establish the stated French programme scope; they do not decide the applicant’s placement, available spaces or the recognition outcome for a particular next institution.

Check the teaching address and joining-year evidence

OIS publishes its address in Bekkestua, rather than central Oslo. Its contact page also notes that upper-secondary classes may start or finish outside standard school hours. Confirm the actual daily timetable and transport options for the offered programme; a journey that works for a younger sibling may need a different collection arrangement for a senior pupil. Keep the French school’s Skovveien address separate, and assess Bergen or Stavanger as different city decisions.

Before committing to any route, send previous reports, course descriptions and language history to the school. Ask which subjects are offered for the intended year, whether the child can enter partway through an examination course and how support is delivered. Stavanger’s page describes some additional Diploma choices through an online provider, so confirm which subjects are taught on campus and which involve another delivery arrangement. Compare current written costs and examination or support charges without assuming one national international-school fee or admissions rule.

Parent questions about Norway schools

Can a child complete the final two school years at the selected Bergen school?

Its published overview describes graduation at Grade 10 and transfer to schools dedicated to the final two years. Begin the receiving-school search before that transition and ask how MYP reports and subject preparation support the application. The guide does not infer a Diploma campus from Bergen’s PYP and MYP provision.

Does OIS’s senior IB programme make its primary curriculum PYP?

No. OIS currently describes IPC in Years 1–6, while its upper-secondary page identifies the Pre-IB sequence and Diploma in Years 12–13. Ask about the child’s exact phase and joining-year preparation rather than extending the senior programme label to the whole school.
