Country & territory guide

Compare schools across Senegal.

Compare the selected Saint-Louis, Thiès, Dakar and Saly schools through the exact approved French class and delivery arrangement. The primary endpoints, earliest approved nursery levels and secondary CNED rows differ. A website's complete school sequence should not silently turn every advertised grade into homologated classroom provision.

Planning a school search in Senegal

Saint-Louis's AEFE CNED rows differ from the operator's direct-teaching description since 2025/26. Its main text and FAQ give different endpoints. Confirm actual class delivery; no later collège homologation is established.

Match the approved French grade to the town

École française Antoine-de-Saint-Exupéry in Saint-Louis and École française Docteur-René-Guillet in Thiès both have AEFE approval rows from Petite section through CM2. Those primary spans are useful for planning completion before secondary study. Thiès separately marks Toute petite section non-homologated. Ask the receiving school about the actual intended class, completed reports and teaching-language preparation rather than extend one approved level into every younger advertised group.

Institution Sainte-Jeanne-d'Arc in Dakar has a different starting point: its approval table begins at Moyenne section and continues through Terminale. Lycée français Jacques-Prévert in Saly lists Petite section through Terminale. For siblings, those exact nursery and senior boundaries matter. A family choosing a town for an older child's lycée route should make a separate enquiry for the younger child rather than assume both tables cover the same first class.

Keep secondary CNED rows separate from primary approval

AEFE's Saint-Louis table marks Sixième through Terminale non-homologated with CNED. The operator instead describes a CNED agreement from Troisième through Terminale and direct teaching introduced in 2025/26. Its main text ends direct teaching at Troisième, while its FAQ ends it at Quatrième. These descriptions do not resolve current delivery for every collège class. Ask for the offered year's teaching, CNED enrolment and assessment plan, particularly for Troisième. Direct teaching does not establish later homologation; the operator describes collège approval as a goal.

Thiès's table has a more specific boundary. Sixième, Cinquième and Quatrième are marked non-homologated without CNED, while Troisième through Terminale have CNED indicated. Do not extend the later CNED rows backwards into every collège year or infer that a class is closed solely from those columns. Obtain the receiving school's current division, provider and class plan. Dakar and Saly instead show approval with CNED marked Non for the listed secondary levels.

Turn phase recognition into an actual transfer plan

The French Ministry explains homologation through conformity with French programmes and review by teaching cycles and levels. Use that meaning alongside each individual table; it does not decide school ownership, personal admission or every additional option. For a move between these towns, identify the child's actual next phase and request a written account of how prior learning and assessment will continue.

Start with the selected town and school profile, then confirm the offered teaching address, school calendar and language-support arrangements. A family approaching CM2 completion in Saint-Louis or Thiès needs a specific secondary decision, including any different delivery model or institution. Send reports and examined-work records before relying on a simple grade conversion. Request a current joining-year quotation with tuition, support, transport and any separately delivered course charges identified. Ask the next provider to assess the precise qualification and subjects required; broad website recognition claims do not settle an individual progression outcome.

Each row combines evidence from several profiles. Its phases may be offered at different schools; it does not mean every school provides every phase. Online delivery is listed separately. Open the school profile for its exact route and eligibility.

Parent questions about Senegal schools

Do AEFE's CNED rows settle Saint-Louis's current secondary delivery?

AEFE marks CNED from Sixième to Terminale. The operator describes CNED from Troisième onward and direct teaching since 2025/26, but its main text and FAQ disagree about whether direct teaching ends at Troisième or Quatrième. Confirm the precise class, provider and assessment plan; that delivery description is not later homologation.

Do Dakar and Saly approve the same first nursery class?

Their named tables differ: Sainte-Jeanne-d'Arc starts at Moyenne section, while Jacques-Prévert starts at Petite section. Both continue through Terminale in their approval rows. Check the intended class and individual joining requirements rather than infer nursery eligibility from a lycée or institutional name.
