Planning a school search in US Virgin Islands

Checked 15 October 2026. Antilles’s linked 2024–25 school profile and 2026–27 Program of Studies were not read; its two arts-credit passages differ, and economics alternates by year. GHCDS’s course pages support particular IGCSE/AS stages, while its FAQ’s AICE definition does not establish an individual award plan. No territory-wide qualification or transport rule is inferred.

Treat the two islands as separate daily school choices

Antilles School gives its campus address as 7280 Frenchman Bay, St Thomas. Good Hope Country Day School, or GHCDS, identifies its campus on St Croix and gives its address as 6199 Concordia, Kingshill. These are distinct island collections, so an attractive programme elsewhere in the territory is not enough to establish a workable daily school arrangement. Confirm the household’s island, receiving campus and pickup expectations before comparing subject lists.

Both schools describe education through Grade 12, but the younger phases deserve their own comparison. Antilles explains hands-on, integrated learning in early years, followed by increasing choices in middle and upper school. GHCDS’s FAQ identifies a Nursery, PreK and Kindergarten Early Learning Center starting at age three, then particular Cambridge courses within its lower division. Ask which class, classroom language and learning-support arrangements fit the child; a school-wide curriculum label does not identify every younger pupil’s courses.

Compare named courses rather than assigning one territorial diploma

Antilles’s Upper School covers Grades 9–12 and combines its graduation curriculum with advanced courses, arts and service. Its Fast Facts page lists AP subjects, explicitly alternating macroeconomics and microeconomics across years. The same page’s arts-credit wording differs between its graduation list and arts section. Ask for the current pupil’s complete graduation plan and cohort timetable rather than assembling an award requirement from those two passages or assuming all AP subjects run annually.

GHCDS’s subject pages make a more precise Cambridge comparison possible. Its middle division describes Integrated Mathematics in Grades 7–8 and Cambridge lower-secondary science stages. The upper English sequence identifies IGCSE Language and Literature in Grades 9–10 and AS General Paper in Grade 12; history includes AS US History in Grade 11 and Virgin Islands History in Grade 12. Those course-level facts are more useful than treating Cambridge as one award at every grade. The FAQ defines AICE, but a definition alone does not confirm an individual pupil’s complete AICE diploma plan.

Check the actual intake and the after-school journey

Antilles’s admission welcome page advertises applications for 2026–27 and starts families with an enquiry to its admission team. Ask about the intended division, current vacancy, previous-school records and the next step for that specific child. Its advertised academic subjects should be checked against the receiving cohort, especially a mid-secondary transfer. An applications-open message is not a class offer or confirmation that a requested advanced course is running.

GHCDS describes rolling admission subject to availability, with a campus tour and, where possible, a Shadow Day. Its FAQ says ordinary transport is not provided; a separate sports answer describes transport to away games with parent pickup afterward. These are different arrangements. Discuss normal collection, activity days and school support together. The school describes literacy, mathematics and social-emotional support, including pull-out and classroom help, but families should agree the actual provision available to their child.

Parent questions about US Virgin Islands schools

Can I compare an AP list directly with an AICE diploma label?

Compare the pupil’s complete plan instead. Antilles has its own graduation requirements and AP options, including alternating economics courses. GHCDS publishes specific IGCSE and AS sequences and defines AICE in its FAQ. Ask which courses, examinations and remaining school requirements constitute the offered award for this child and cohort.

Does GHCDS’s away-game transport cover the normal school run?

No. Its FAQ separately says normal transport is not provided, while away-game transport ends with parents collecting from the game location. Confirm the everyday St Croix journey, regular pickup and any activity-specific arrangement with the school. Antilles’s St Thomas location is a separate household and campus decision.
