Choosing a school in Tucson

The Gregory School and Salpointe Catholic High School serve different Tucson entry points. Compare the receiving grade, senior course delivery and the school’s own transfer timetable before planning a move.

This guide accompanies 2 included profiles. It is a selected collection; confirm places and current charges with each school.

Checked 15 October 2026. Salpointe’s course PDF is 2025–26, not a verified later-year menu. Gregory’s admissions page retains 2026–27 wording with past 2025/early-2026 appointments and deadlines. Linked Gregory course guides were not read. Neither school’s published process confirms a place or external credit.

Start with the receiving grade and actual campus

The selected Tucson collection includes The Gregory School, a coeducational Grades 5–12 day school at 3231 North Craycroft Road, and Salpointe Catholic High School at 1545 East Copper Street. Gregory offers an earlier entry point for a child approaching middle school; Salpointe’s reviewed admissions routes concern high school. A family moving with younger and older siblings should discuss each receiving grade separately rather than assume that one provider covers the full family pathway.

Gregory describes a self-contained fifth-grade programme with individualised mathematics. Its Grades 6–12 share a block timetable, allowing suitably placed middle-school students to take upper-school courses. That is a specific scheduling possibility, not automatic acceleration. Bring work samples and a recent subject sequence to the placement discussion, and ask how an advanced class fits the child’s other lessons. For a later high-school entrant, Salpointe’s transfer assessment also makes the available course schedule a practical constraint.

Separate campus study, online electives and college credit

Gregory says its Upper School academic classes are Honors or AP and describes semester English seminars for juniors and seniors, possible dual enrolment and a senior internship. Global Online Academy electives are a separate online opportunity alongside campus study. Ask which proposed courses are taught locally, which use the online partner, and how deadlines fit the school timetable. An online elective’s presence does not establish the same delivery, teacher contact or assessment as a campus course.

Salpointe’s directly reviewed course catalogue is explicitly 2025–26. It distinguishes AP study and examinations from selected dual-credit arrangements, describes additional university charges and warns that receiving universities decide credit transfer. Use it to frame questions, not as a current course offer for 2027 entry. Ask a counsellor for the intended year’s prerequisites, graduation audit and subject availability, and identify separately the school course, any AP examination and any university registration. Those are different decisions even where a course can involve more than one.

Check transfer timing instead of borrowing a general deadline

Salpointe’s admissions page announces the 2027–28 freshman cycle, but its transfer categories have separate conditions. Sophomore and junior applications are limited by space and course availability and list a 3.0 GPA without D or F grades. The normal transfer start is the beginning of the school year. The school specifically invites discussion of an out-of-state employment transfer or special circumstances, so the general mid-year restriction should not be turned into a claim that every exception is impossible.

Senior transfers are described as rare, with particular exceptions mentioned for pupils from other Catholic schools outside the area or hardship cases. Gregory instead describes records, interviews, testing and a shadow visit, but its visible admissions timetable still names 2026–27 and lists appointments and deadlines in 2025 and early 2026. Those dates are past on this review date. Contact Gregory for the actual next or in-year intake rather than interpreting an accessible application page as confirmation of a current place.

Parent questions about Tucson schools

Does Gregory’s online option replace its Tucson campus programme?

Can a senior moving to Tucson enter Salpointe mid-year?

Salpointe describes senior transfer as rare and normally starts transfers at the school-year boundary, while identifying special circumstances for discussion. Send the transcript and move details to admissions for an individual review; no offer or exception is assured.
