Country & territory guide
Compare schools across Germany.
Compare the selected Germany school collections by actual municipality, school phase and leaving award. Munich-branded provision in Starnberg, Frankfurt International School in Oberursel and Salem’s senior college in Überlingen illustrate different campus arrangements. The relevant federal state and the intended subject combination also matter when planning a national or international qualification route.

Planning a school search in Germany
Use the actual municipality and federal state
Germany’s education responsibilities are rooted in the Länder. KMK describes their predominant responsibility for education and their coordination across state boundaries. A country shortlist should therefore retain the actual school location rather than treating a metropolitan name as a complete education jurisdiction. Ask the school which state rules and local recognition arrangements apply to the intended provision; a curriculum brand alone does not establish those arrangements.
Munich International School’s FAQ places its day school at Schloss Buchhof in Starnberg and states that it does not offer boarding. Frankfurt International School’s campus page distinguishes Oberursel, which continues through Grade 12, from Wiesbaden, which continues through Grade 8. Use the Starnberg and Oberursel collections to investigate the selected profiles, then ask about the child’s assigned division and address. A group-level search should not silently extend one campus’s senior provision to another location.

Check the IB phase map and the final award
Munich International School explicitly describes PYP provision through Grade 4 and MYP in Grades 5–10. In Grades 11–12, its school diploma can accompany individual IB courses or the full IB Diploma. These choices have different assessment commitments. When comparing a transfer into Starnberg, ask whether the offer is for a full Diploma programme or selected courses and obtain the proposed subject plan, language expectations and graduation requirements for that individual student.
Frankfurt International School publishes PYP provision at both campuses and the Diploma at its Upper School. Its Grades 6–8 page describes a school curriculum connecting the primary foundation with later Diploma preparation; that description should not be converted into an assumed MYP route. Compare the actual middle-school coursework and progression plan with Munich’s explicit MYP sequence. Families considering Wiesbaden need a separate conversation about the next school after Grade 8 rather than assuming automatic access to an Oberursel place.

Distinguish Salem’s senior college from the wider school
The selected Salem International College profile belongs to Überlingen. The college page describes Abitur and IB Diploma course systems in the final two school years and identifies Schloss Spetzgart and Campus Härlen as senior locations. This is a different comparison from a day school with a full younger-year sequence. Confirm the intended senior route, campus and residential arrangements together; the wider Schule Schloss Salem name does not make every listed site the location of every phase.
For a family planning higher education in Germany, qualification recognition and university admission are separate steps. ZAB’s guidance describes evaluation recommendations for foreign school certificates, including additional requirements where direct entrance is not available, and states that universities make admission decisions. Check the current requirements for the exact award and subject combination with the receiving institution before narrowing the shortlist. This is particularly useful when comparing a German Abitur route with a school diploma, individual IB courses or the full IB Diploma.

Each row combines evidence from several profiles. Its phases may be offered at different schools; it does not mean every school provides every phase. Online delivery is listed separately. Open the school profile for its exact route and eligibility.

Parent questions about Germany schools
Does an IB label mean the same phase sequence at every German school?
No. Munich explicitly maps PYP, MYP and senior Diploma options. Frankfurt’s middle-school page describes its own curriculum bridge toward Diploma study. Read the phase-specific offer and confirm the final award; authorisation or provision for one IB programme should not be extended to another without evidence.

Can Frankfurt International School’s Wiesbaden campus provide the full senior route?
Its published campus scope ends at Grade 8, while Oberursel continues through Grade 12. Confirm the intended next-school and admissions arrangements separately. The Oberursel profile in this collection should not be treated as evidence of Diploma teaching at Wiesbaden.
