Choosing a school in Montevideo

Montevideo school comparisons should include the teaching site, local year label and academic calendar. St Brendan’s and Woodlands publish several locations; The British Schools and UAS describe different senior pathways. A school brand, an IB label or a Cambridge language certificate does not settle the child’s actual middle-school programme, campus or joining-year schedule.

This guide accompanies 4 included profiles. It is a selected collection; confirm places and current charges with each school.

Match the school division to its published teaching site

St Brendan’s lists its Central site at Avenida Rivera 2314, Punta Carretas at Joaquín Núñez 2784 and Brendies at Bulevar Artigas 414. Its MYP page identifies the Central site for that secondary programme. Ask admissions which address serves each younger sibling and the next transition, rather than planning every child’s collection from the school’s general contact address. Confirm where afternoon activities and any separate sports journeys start and finish.

Woodlands’s homepage distinguishes Senior High at San Carlos de Bolívar 6410, Junior School at Havre 1874 and Little Woodlands at Horacio Quiroga 6425. The British Schools publishes Máximo Tajes 6421. These addresses give concrete visit starting points; they do not establish a common transport route or travel time. Ask to visit the offered division and confirm its class entrance, daily timetable and current collection or school-transport arrangements before comparing the family’s routine.

Distinguish IGCSE, MYP and the senior qualification

The British Schools’ secondary page describes national study with IGCSE preparation leading towards the IB Diploma. St Brendan’s separately publishes MYP, locally called PAI, from Grade 7 through 1° EMS, and describes Diploma and Career-related programmes in its senior offering. The local labels should be mapped to the child’s completed subjects and reports. A transfer between these schools can involve a different middle-school assessment sequence even when IB is the later aim.

Woodlands identifies Senior High as national programme study combined with Cambridge International AS and A levels. Its earlier references to Cambridge certifications should not be treated as proof that every younger phase follows an IGCSE or A-level curriculum. UAS describes US, Uruguayan and IB diploma possibilities. Ask which school and additional awards the pupil would pursue, how their requirements fit together and which subjects are offered for the intended year.

Calendar and admissions timing can change the transfer plan

UAS says its school year starts in August and ends in June. Confirm the joining term against the child’s previous school calendar, especially when transferring during a senior examination course. Request a written explanation of how completed semesters, national subjects and any IB coursework will be handled. A Montevideo address alone should not be used to infer one shared academic calendar for every provider.

St Brendan’s homepage describes a sibling registration period in May and new-family periods in June–July, alongside interviews and a later confirmation process. The published month sequence has no established intake-year heading, so ask which cycle applies now and whether another entry point is possible. Its MYP page also describes a compulsory extended day beginning at 07:45; confirm the intended-year timetable. At each school, compare dated written costs for the offered division, including examinations, activities, support and transport.

Parent questions about Montevideo schools

Does St Brendan’s MYP mean the same middle-school course as The British Schools’ IGCSE preparation?

No. St Brendan’s publishes PAI/MYP from Grade 7 through 1° EMS, while The British Schools describes IGCSE preparation before its Diploma programme. Ask the receiving team to map completed subjects and assessment evidence to its actual class and later senior requirements; a shared IB ambition does not make the earlier courses identical.

Can a family assume UAS follows the same calendar as every Montevideo school?

UAS explicitly publishes an August–June school year. Check the intended-year dates and ask other shortlisted providers for their own calendars. Before a midyear or senior transfer, request a plan for completed semesters and coursework rather than relying on the city or diploma label.
