Regional school guide

Compare schools across Africa.

An Africa-wide search should narrow to a named city, teaching language and joining phase before comparing schools. Selected examples in Johannesburg, New Cairo, Moka and Nairobi offer American-style, British, IB primary and French national routes. Their differences are useful for shortlisting; none establishes a single African curriculum, admission category, residence rule or fee structure.

99 included profiles · 82 destination collections · 32 countries and territories · 4 dated tuition schedules

This is a selected directory, with different levels of evidence in each collection. Open the named campus profile to check its curriculum phases, review date and sources before contacting admissions.

Planning a school search in Africa

NCBIS's curriculum and contact claims were reviewed through official indexed text after direct retrieval failed. AISJ's directly read high-school handbook retains a 2025–26 calendar; Clavis' satellite description retains a January 2025 opening plan. Current dates, subjects and satellite year provision remain school-confirmation questions.

Compare the final programme and the phase beneath it

American International School of Johannesburg's high-school handbook describes American-style study and IB Diploma or High School Programme routes in Grades 11–12. New Cairo British International School publishes GCSE/IGCSE in Years 10–11 and A-level or Diploma choices in Years 12–13. Compare the student's completed courses and intended award, then ask the receiving school about available subjects and the permitted joining point.

Clavis' Moka campus describes Pre-Reception through Year 6 with the IB Primary Years Programme. That establishes a primary comparison, not a local Diploma or secondary continuation. For a younger pupil, discuss the next provider after Year 6 as well as the current classroom. In Nairobi, AEFE's Denis-Diderot record lists French homologation by level through Terminale. The French Ministry explains that homologated provision follows French programmes and prepares pupils for French diplomas.

Use the campus serving the child, not the school-group name

AISJ's contact page separates Johannesburg, serving Pre-K3 through Grade 12, from Pretoria, serving Pre-K3 through Grade 8. Its Johannesburg teaching site is in Knopjeslaagte, Midrand. The selected Johannesburg profile must not be used to promise high-school teaching at Pretoria. Discuss the practical transition and travel arrangements if the student's required phase changes site.

NCBIS identifies Fifth Settlement in New Cairo. Clavis identifies its main campus at Mount Ory in Moka, while separately describing a Beau Champ satellite. Its page still introduces that satellite through a January 2025 opening plan, so do not treat that wording as proof of every currently running year there. Keep the Moka enquiry tied to its own phase and obtain the exact teaching address for the offered class before planning housing or transport.

Check support, progression and costs within the named system

Ask about classroom language, academic-language assessment and support for the actual pupil. A family's French-school continuity question differs from entry into NCBIS's examination sequence or Clavis' primary PYP. AEFE's Nairobi table also marks Toute Petite Section separately from its homologated levels; recognition should be checked for the relevant year rather than inferred for every class from the school's network membership.

Request a written placement and progression plan with the proposed start date. AISJ's handbook retains a 2025–26 calendar, so confirm the latest offered programme rather than using those dates for a new arrival. Obtain a dated quotation in the school's billing currency that separates tuition, application, examinations, transport, support and residential provision if offered. Confirm available places, individual documents and any guardian arrangements directly. A regional shortlist can organise those enquiries, but it cannot settle them.

Each row combines evidence from several profiles. Its phases may be offered at different schools; it does not mean every school provides every phase. Online delivery is listed separately. Open the school profile for its exact route and eligibility.

Parent questions about Africa schools

Does Clavis' IB status establish a secondary or Diploma option in Moka?

Its main-campus description covers Pre-Reception through Year 6 and PYP. Ask about the student's next provider and transfer preparation after primary. Do not extend that published phase to a secondary or Diploma programme.

Can I apply AISJ's Johannesburg high-school description to Pretoria?

The current contact page lists Johannesburg through Grade 12 and Pretoria through Grade 8. Use the campus serving the required grade and ask about any transition, commute and receiving-course requirements separately.
